Purple

Purple

Do you like purple? Some hate it, some love it, but it is such an intriguing color, that there are no undecided about it. If you wear it, you will, for sure, stand out.

Put on Prince's "Purple rain", sit back and read this short visual story about my love for purple" :)

Similar as today, back in the days, purple was a special color. It used to indicate the status, power and wealth. It was associates often to restricted elites. For example, Caesar (not the chicken salad, but Julius, the Roman Emperor) restricted wearing of the purple striped toga to emperors. It continued to be emperors color even during byzantine era.

Purple used to be extracted from the sea snail murex brandaris and was very expensive to make. It took around 12000 snails to make approx 1,4 grams of the color! And, you wouldn't be able to dye even a particle of one garment!

China was the first to develop a synthetic purple color. in Europe, only in 19th century a man-made pigment was created, accidentally by a teenager who was pretending to be a chemist!

And then, we are coming to the 20th century and purple in a common people fashion. My favorite artist Gustav Klimt portraited a lady in the purple hat.

And here we are, with my own work - my knitwear in purple. For all the ages, seasons and occasions. I was not even aware of how much I like purple, till I spontaneously created more and more garments in this color. Take a sneak peak into some of it, and let me know how you feel about it :)
